2002- A chain of thrift stores and community outreach programs were
begun, and “Fountain of Hope”, a separate 501 © (3) non profit was
established.
2004- Four hurricanes in Florida, 22 million dollars of donated
distributed supplies later, a DBA called ACTS was established. David
offered to assist the Florida SDA corporate church office with a vision
and plan to help the affected communities by becoming a “self-funded”
Disaster Director, and thus leaving a secure salary position by a step
in faith. He began contacting community businessmen with a vision to
purchase needed equipment to mobilize an “Army of Everyone”. David is
an inventor, who looks for efficiency in solving problems, and was
frustrated helping with hurricane Andrew when truck drivers literally
kicked donated items out of their semi trucks in the rain. The
corporate church, concerned over liability issues requested David not
be an officer with ACTS. The worldwide church requested the acronym
ACTS (Adventist Community Team Services) be dropped for liability and
trademark reasons, or offering to control this separate organization by
ownership. The acronym was then changed to Active Community Team
Services, but most recently because of networking with other
organizations such as “Operation Compassion”, has expanded it’s acronym
to mean Acts of Compassion Team Services.
